Academic Information

Attendance Policy

HBA attendance policy includes the following:

  1. Two tardies equal one absence
  2. Any student entering the class more than thirty minutes late is considered absent
  3. A student who is absent from a course for more than 25% of the time cannot receive
    credit for that course
  4. Tests and examinations missed during unexcused absences may not be made up
  5. Approved makeup test: the student should pay the Institute’s Director of Finance and
present proof of payment to the lecturer before he/she administers the test

Absences may be excused for the following reasons:

  1. A serious sickness that makes it impossible for the student to attend class; the student
must report to the school management (either the Admin. Officer or the Registrar)
  2. Serious sickness in the immediate family
  3. Death in the immediate family

Guidelines for missed Examinations

  1. Students who miss any examination(s) for a valid reason(s) will collect the Application form for the missed examination from the office of the Registrar.
  2. Missed examination(s) shall be granted to students who have obtained permission
from the appropriate Academy’s authority and have presented such permission to the
Registrar through the lecturer for approval.
  3. Students with valid excused absences will not be surcharged for such examination(s).
However, students without valid excuse(s) will be required to pay the prevailing penalty fees as demanded by the Academy’s authority.

Mode of Lecture

HBA utilizes both synchronous and asynchronous methods for delivering lectures. Students must attend and actively participate in online classes, typically involving interactive sessions with lecturers lasting two to three hours per course credit. In a standard academic context, a 2-credit unit course entails approximately 32 hours of total engagement over the semester per course, while a 3-credit unit course entails 48 hours of total engagement over the semester per course.

Our certificate program spans FOUR (4) months and is structured in a modular format. Students are expected to dedicate 12 hours (3 hours weekly) PER COURSE to live interactive sessions with lecturers and peers. Additionally, they are encouraged to invest
24 hours PER COURSE (with an average of 6 hours per week) in self-study, group discussions, and online interactions facilitated through platforms like WhatsApp groups, Google Classroom, and other tools introduced by the school to support continuous learning engagement.

Our Professional Certificate program spans SIX (6) months and is also structured in a modular format. Students are expected to dedicate 12 hours (3 hours weekly) PER COURSE to live interactive sessions with lecturers and peers. Additionally, they are encouraged to invest 36 hours PER COURSE (with an average of 9 hours per week) in self-study, group discussions, and online interactions facilitated through platforms like WhatsApp groups, Google Classroom, and other tools introduced by the school to support continuous learning engagement.

Submission of Assignments

  1. All assignments should be submitted at the stipulated date by each lecturer.
  2. No lecturer, under any circumstances, will wait for students to submit their
assignments after additional days or weeks of grace before the compilation of results.
  3. Any student who fails to submit his or her assignments after the due date will be
    penalized
  4. Whatever such student submitted will be calculated to come up with the final grade.
If the final grade is less than 50%, after all the assignments have been compiled, the
student will be given an “F”.
  5. Any assignment submitted after that will not be counted.

Auditing Courses

Students may request permission to audit elective courses for personal enrichment without
receiving academic credit. Requests must first be approved by the course lecturer and
processed through the office of the registrar for final authorization. Students may not audit
a non-required course that they intend to take for credit later. Students auditing a course are
not required to take the tests in the audited course. Students’ wives are given the privilege
to audit courses without fees, but alumni and continuing students will pay certain fees as
determined by the Institute’s Finance director.
